Tonight, I wanted to take a moment to tell you about something Chris and I decided to do; on a recent trip to Conscious Cravings, we saw a sign advertising a charity walk to support Farm Sanctuary, a group that rescues neglected and abused farm animals. I've been a fan of the group for some time but had yet to support them in any way. I thought this was the perfect opportunity to do so! If you haven't heard of Farm Sanctuary before, the following video is an excellent introduction.
As you can imagine, it takes an immense amount of money to pay for the land, equipment, supplies, food, and myriad of other necessities required to take care of so many animals of many different breeds. One of the ways Farm Sanctuary raises both awareness and funds is by fundraising efforts like the Walk for Farm Animals. One must register and pay a fee in order to participate, but the fee becomes a pledge in itself. In Austin, the walk will be taking place on Saturday, October 27th. It begins with check-in at 10AM with the actual walk taking place from 11AM-2PM. From the website:
Every Walk has its own character—there could be inspirational speakers, live music, vegan food, raffle prizes, face painting, costume contests, or other exciting activities. Your city’s Walk page will post its own unique schedule of events. No matter the city, you can expect a course route of about three miles, a morning of fun with your fellow walkers, and the wonderful feeling of knowing you’ve done something important to help farm animals!
From what I can find on the Austin event's Facebook page, there will be vegan popcorn at the walk donated by Cornucopia, fresh fruit from Mister FruitCup, baked goods from Happy Vegan Baker, raffle prizes, and more.
I should also mention that you can bring your dog to the event as well! Rusty is totally coming. He loves walking. He loves animals. He is totally on board with walking for rescued farm animals! I might end up having to carry him... but I'd like him to be there, regardless.
SO if you would like to support the efforts of me and my team, you have several options.

If you still aren't sure whether or not you should support this cause, take a moment and watch the following video. Farm Sanctuary provides an essential service in the name of animals that are often overlooked and unthought of. Farm animals can often be just as neglected as dogs and cats. Puppy mills are bad, cat hoarders are bad, and farms full of starving sheep, goats, chickens, and pigs are bad, too. Cases like the one in this video are often overlooked by the media and are more common than you might think.
Thank you for your consideration, and I hope to see you on October 27th!
