VMofo: Vegan Mashup

I've come across a number of people who weren't aware of the fact that vegan cooking shows actually exist. When you tune in to the Food Network it's almost always a show about the epitome of non-vegan food. So where does one turn when they want vegan TV? Why, PBS of course!

There are currently three vegan cooking shows that air on CreateTV, where PBS airs most of its cooking and travel shows. We have Christina, formerly Christina Cooks, starring Christina Pirello, who shares with viewers her whole foods dishes and healthy options. Then there's the Jazzy Vegetarian featuring Laura Theodore, a show that has included a variety of recipes and remakes of traditional non-vegan fare. The most recent show, however, is called Vegan Mashup, and that's the one I'd like to share with you today.

It's a really fun series starring Toni Fiore, Terry Hope Romero, and Miyoko Schinner that features a variety of recipes that are easy to make with affordable ingredients. The episode that introduced me to the series also featured Colleen Patrick-Goudreau and a recipe for quesadillas that used hummus instead of cheese. Miyoko Schinner also shared her recipe for vegan "BLT" sandwiches using tofu to replace the bacon. We've made that recipe a number of times since then. It's a definite keeper!

The recently raised money for season number two through a Kickstarter campaign. Backers at certain levels were able to download the first season, which included myself, and I've been enjoying it a lot. And unlike the other two shows I mentioned, you can actually purchase the first season of Vegan Mashup on DVD through Amazon. And if you'd like to find out when Vegan Mashup airs on your PBS station, visit the CreateTV website here.
