September 1st began the Vegan Month of Food (Vegan Mofo for short) for 2013. Basically, all of the people participating will be posting as much as possible about veganism throughout the month of September. My theme for this year is "Vegan Stuff."
For this first week, I'll be sharing with you vegan products that are great for road trips and travel, or "Travel-Friendly Foods." This is something I always struggled with when I was a teen. It was difficult for me to find things to bring with me on vacation and a lot of the destinations I ended up in really weren't friendly to vegetarians, let alone vegans. Sometimes it seems like this is still an issue in most parts of the country, so I thought I would help solve this problem for others to the best of my ability. The first items I'll be featuring are the microwavable dishes known as Tasty Bites.
I recently featured this brand of ethnic packaged foods on my blog, hosting a giveaway, and so forth. But, honestly, I've enjoyed Tasty Bite products for a long time. When I first posted the product review I wrote for them I was surprised that so many commenters had not heard of them before. Here are a few reasons why I like them so much.
- They're affordable
- They come in a variety of flavors
- They're easy to make (60-90 seconds in the 'wave)
- They travel extremely well
Some of my favorites include their Punjab Eggplant, Aloo Palak, and Bombay Potatoes. If you end up hitting the road and might end up in a place without vegan friendly restaurants, you can take some of these items along with you so you'll have something to eat other than salad and baked potatoes.
If you're not the cooking kind, you can take advantage of Tasty Bite's ease of use and adaptability. In addition to bean and vegetable based dishes they also have grain based ones as well, like Basmati Rice and Barley Medley.
Do you have any packaged vegan foods that you bring with you when you travel? I would love to hear your own recommendations. Please comment below! And check back again tomorrow when I share with you something a bit sweeter!
