I used to be a big fan of Emergen-C. My mother got me into drinking it while I still lived at home and when I finally took flight and left the nest, I tried to always bring some with me when I traveled and attempted to drink it more often during cold season. Emergen-C is one of many brands of vitamin-C beverages. It's powdered and contains a number of other vitamins and nutrients. It also fizzies, which is fun.
But I later found out that not all of Emergen-C's flavors are vegan. In fact, there are quite a few flavors that vegans should not be buying including Joint Health (bovine chondroitin), Pink Lemonade (honey), Vitamin D & Calcium, Cherry-Pomegranate, Apricot-Mango, Citrus, and Blueberry-Acai (lanolin derived D3).
So, yeah, that's too long of a list to keep track of, in my opinion. Also, as someone on a vegan diet, one of my primary reasons for drinking a vitamin beverage is for B vitamins. Which brings me to Effer-C, a vegan brand of vitamin drink mix that has much higher levels of B vitamins and is also vegan.
Effer-C only comes in a few flavors, Orange, Lemon Lime, and Elderberry, but that is something I can most definitely live with when faced with the alternative. It's also more affordable and tastes better (at least to me). And let's not forget the distinct lack of animal by-products!
I have a box in the drawer in my desk at work for regular enjoyment and always try to bring a few with me when I leave town. What do you think? Have you tried this brand of vitamin drink mix before? Let me know what you thought by using the comments area below!
Tomorrow will be the last travel-friendly vegan foods post for me. I hope you check back in on my Vegan Mofo posts! Click here for the ones I've already published this week.
